AB - The aim of this paper is to present the influence of differ-ent temperatures on the impact toughness of welded joint of high strength low-alloy steel. The results of impact tests for all three constituents of the manual arc welded joint of NN-70 steel at temperatures range from 20 °C to -100 °C are presented. It has been shown that impact tests of high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels at room and lower tem-peratures indicate that temperature significantly affects the toughness of high-strength low-alloy steels in the context that lowering the test temperature leads to creation of brittle fracture in the form of a successive decrease in total impact energy. This indicator is very important in the further design and exploitation of welded steel structures.

AB - The behavior of steel in low-cycle fatigue (LCF) is tested experimentally, in accordance with ISO 12106:2017 (E) and/or ASTM E 606-04. For this purpose, smooth specimens which are exposed to low-cycle fatigue at several levels of regulated strains and/or loads at room, elevated or reduced temperatures are used. Stress–strain response at LCF has the shape of an ideal hysteresis loop. The strain range Δε corresponds to overall loop width, while the stress range Δσ corresponds to its overall height. The paper presents a method for determining the intersection of the idealized hysteresis loop and the positive part of the strain axis in order to determine the values of elastic, Δεe/2, and plastic, Δεp/2, components of the strain amplitude to characterize the behavior of steel under low cyclic fatigue. The values of elastic and plastic components of the strain amplitude are needed to determine the characteristic curves of low-cycle fatigue, which describe the behavior of steel under the loading of low-cycle fatigue.

AB - The most important characteristics for service safety of welded joints are those describing crack initiation and growth caused by variable loading. Crack initiation and growth caused by variable loading is the subject of numerous investigations. This paper shows the determination of parameters of the fatigue crack for constituents of welded joints produced of high strength low alloyed steel. The crack growth law of Paris establishes the relation between the applied variable load quantity or the corresponding stress intensity factor range and crack growth per cycle. Results have shown that the position of the notch and crack initiation affect the values of the stress intensity range of fatigue threshold Delta Kth and parameters in the Paris' equation.

AB - The cycle loading of a material results in the modification of its properties and so in this paper is presented the behaviour of the fatigue life using low-cycle fatigue parameters. By applying the Coffin-Manson equation in fatigue loading of the tested specimens, the crack initiation has been computed. The stabilized hysteresis loop is a characteristic of all hystereses and it is used to determine all of the parameters for the low cycle fatigue (LCF) assessment. The experimental results have given us important information on the understanding of fatigue behaviour of high strength low-alloyed steel (HSLA) and its welded joints.

AB - Brittle damages have been examined widely since welding became common practice when it comes to carrying out robust structures. Welded structure of the ship hull has to be continuous. Brittle damages that occur on hull structures have always been examined thoroughly. Cracks are most commonly initiated at locations where stress concentrators exist. These concentrators can originate due to flaws that occur during the design phase or due to mistakes that occur during the assembly of the structure. When it comes to failures and damages that occur at ship structures, it has been noticed that damages due to brittleness practically always happen at low temperatures. Impact test analysis is significant due to the fact that it replicates the ductile to brittle transition of steel in practically identical range of temperatures for all ship structures. Impact of ductile-brittle transition temperature is an important factor especially because there have been many ship failures and damages in history. In ship structures made of welded joints of high strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels with their segments (parent metal, weld metal and heat-affected- zone), the toughness test determines the tendency of steel to brittle fracture, respectively the tendency to increase brittleness during exploitation. Parameters obtained by testing the properties of plasticity are the fundamental for the composition of ship structures with the aim of realize strengths under tested load. The test results of high strength low-alloy steel toughness assessment at different test temperatures show that temperature significantly affects the impact toughness of steels and their alloys.

AB - Numerous structural components made of high strength low-alloyed steels are often exposed to low-cycle fatigue loading during their exploitation life. In order to study the fatigue behavior of one grade of structural steels produced in Yugoslavia during the eighties of the last century, a push-pull constant amplitude strain-controlled fatigue tests were conducted at room temperatures. This paper analyses behavior of two different materials, parent steel (PM) and its coarse-grained (CG) simulated heat-affected zone (SHAZ) exposed to the action of low-cycle fatigue (LCF) loading performed in the range from 1 to 10(4) cycles. LCF tests were conducted at strain ratio R = -1 at strain amplitude range from 0.3% to 0.8%. The materials' Coffin-Manson parameters appearing in the strain-life and cyclic stress-strain curves were calculated. Fracture surface analysis of both materials was done. The results showed that plasticity under dynamic load conditions is satisfactory for both materials which give them good resistance to crack initiation and propagation.

AB - Experimental research on the behaviour of high-strength low-alloy steel ( HSLA)exposed to low-cycle fatigue (LCF) with controlled and fully reversible strain (Delta epsilon/2 = const, R epsilon =epsilon(min)/epsilon(max) = -1) has been analysed. LCF tests are performed on a series of smooth bar shaped specimens, 11 x 11 x 95 mm, parent metal (PM), welded joint (WJ) and simulated heat affected zone (SHAZ) of steel Nionikral 70 (NN-70) with semi-amplitude of controlled strain, Delta epsilon/2 = 0.40- 0.80. The results of the experimental investigation have given us important information on the understanding of fatigue behaviour of steel NN-70 and its welded joints. In this work the results of static and dynamic-, that is monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material, are compared, which is a practical contribution to the assessment of the behaviour of PM and WJ of steel NN-70 exposed to effects of low cycle fatigue, i.e. monotonous and fatigue behaviour of the material.

AB - A quenched and tempered high strength low alloy steel NIONIKRAL 70 for producing welded pressure vessels, where high resistance to fatigue crack propagation and high tolerance of damage are of high importance, has been investigated. Low cycle fatigue tests were conducting on several series of uniaxial cylindrical smooth specimens under strain control. The cycle behavior of the material is characterized using Coffin-Manson relation.

AB - Low cycle fatigue test was performed in ambient atmosphere at room temperature. cycle loading of material, in case of High strength low-alloy steel, entails modifications of its properties and in this paper is therefore shown behavior of fatigue life using low cycle fatigue parameters. Mere precisely, crack initiation life of tested specimens Was computed using theory of Coffin-Manson relation during the fatigue loading. The geometry Of the stabilized hysteresis loop of welded joint HSLA steel, marked as Nionikral 70, is also analyzed. This stabilized hysteresis loop is very important for determination of materials properties.

AB - High strength low-alloy steel under low cycle fatigue at a certain level of strain controlled achieve stabilized condition. During the fatigue loading stabilized hysteresis loop is determined, which typical cycle of stabilization is calculated as half number of cycles to failure. Stabilized hysteresis loop is a representative of all hysteresis and it's used to determine all of the parameters for the assessment of low cycle fatigue.
AB - From a fracture mechanics point of view on welded joints, it is assumed that the welded joint is pre-cracked such as that the fatigue life of the pre-cracked structure is then determined by the period of crack growth under variable load. Experimental data obtained by testing provide a substantial basis for a better understanding and an explanation of the phenomenon of material fatigue. Low cycle fatigue (LCF) occurs during the process of charging and discharging of reactors, pressure vessels and pipelines; the fatigue can be accelerated by an additional negative effect of temperature variation and the aggressive effect of the media contained inside the vessel, and during the exploitation of the equipment in the processing industry. In the present paper the results are presented of J-integral measurements at LCF of a low-alloyed high strength steel (HSLA) weld metal used in the submerged arc welding process in the manufacture of pressure vessels.

AB - The effect of MIG/MAG shielding gas on the toughness of aluminium alloy AlMg4.5Mn weld metal has been analysed using the instrumented Charpy pendulum for standard toughness testing. The MIG/MAG welding was performed in the shielded atmosphere of Ar, as well as the mixtures of gases Ar + 0.0307 % O 2, Ar + 30 % He + 0.0317 %O 2 and Ar + 48 % He + 0.0290 % O 2. Metallographic tests have been performed in order to check the appearance and porosity of the weld metal, as well as its toughness testing at different temperatures (20, - 90, - 196 °C), using the instrumental Charpy pendulum, in order to separate the crack initiation and crack growth energy. In this way, a comprehensive insight of the effect of shielding gas on the weld metal toughness has been obtained.

AB - In this paper the AlMg4.5Mn TIG welded joints have been tested in order to investigate their cracking resistance. Testing plates, size of 500×250×12 mm, are welded by TIG procedure in a horizontal-vertical position. Various mixtures of inert gases are prepared and supplied by MESSER TEHNOGAS AD, Smederevo (Serbia), including Ar, Ar + 0.015% N 2 , Ar + 15% He + 0.015% N 2 , Ar + 30% He + 0.015% N 2 , Ar + 50% He + 0.015% N 2 . Nondestructive testing is used to check joint defects, primarily porosity, as typical for this type of alloys. The Charpy specimens, with the notch positioned in different regions of the welded joint, are tested using instrumented pendulum to separate crack initiation and growth energy. Crack resistance is evaluated by using static (KIc) and dynamic testing (Paris law - fatigue crack growth).
