AB - During earthquakes that exceed the designed level of the structure, the structure gets damaged. Here, the structure-foundation-soil is considered as a system, and the effect of the soil on the piles can be replaced by nonlinear p-y curves. Work on this topic began as early as 1957, based on the analogy between the triaxial test and the form of soil failure, and during the 1970’s, a number of researchers made significant progress in the development of appropriate models for different types of soil. Eurocode 8 pays special attention to the selection of earthquakes as a set of accelerograms. For areas within a radius of several hundred kilometers from central Romania and its southern part, the Vrancea hypocenter has a significant influence. In North Serbia and its surroundings, other sources of earthquakes are also possible, but when choosing accelerogram, the response spectra of several Vrancea records should also be used. The SSI model itself, where the soil is replaced by p-y curves, even though it might look complicated, it is significantly simpler and leads to faster results than integral 3D models. By using adequate soil parameters, fairly reliable data can be obtained on the degree and distribution of damage to the SSI system, like plastic hinges. In soil models used for clean sand, the curves used seem significantly more reliable than clayey ones, but here too caution is needed because the degree of compaction (relative density) has a significant effect, and the way of determining it is still not reliable.

AB - This paper presents the manner of modeling the aftershock (in an earthquake), the phenomenon whose significance has been noted in the second half of the 20th century. Itlists the constructional systems in which the consideration of the aftershock is important. It shows in more detail the model of the skeletal RC construction, i.e. the 2D RC facade frame constructed on the 60cm-diameter drilled RC piles. The dynamic interaction soil-pile, i.e. the non-linear behaviour of the soil is modelled with the horizontal p-y curves for sand, applying multiplastic link elements. For the accelerogram El Centro during time history (TH) the global and (local) drift, the condition of plastic hinges were considered.

AB - During the revitalization of the hydroelectric generating station A4 at the hydro power plant 'Djerdap 1', all of its parts are subjected to non-destructive testing. Cracks are detected in cast part of generator rotor hub, in the flange area toward the turbine shaft. Cracks were 10-500 mm long (determined by magnetic particle tests) and 60-100 mm deep (ultrasonic tests). The generator rotor hub is made of cast steel 25L, in accordance with the standard 977-75. The welding/surface welding repair technology in the detected crack zones of the cast part of generator rotor hub includes a large number of details, due to the structural solution and generator rotor function in service. It was also necessary to provide the carefully undertaken activities in order to enable safe operation and continuous use of the rotor hub. Failing to notice, underestimation or incorrect perception of important details could cause significant problems in hydroelectric generating station operation. The paper, due to specifics of reparation technology, contains arranged preparatory activities for the procedure apart from the welding/surface welding technology. It is of importance to mention a huge amount of money savings, The manufacture of a new generator rotor would cost over 4 million EUR (generator mass is over 300 tonnes), not taking into account the time needed for its making (6-12 months), which is directly related to the amount of energy a hydroelectric generating station can produce during that period. This technology of repair welding is also applicable for other components and structures of the turbine and the hydromechanical equipment subjected to various causes of damage during exploitation.

AB - Vital components of the beam that enable conjoint operation of two bridge cranes are braces and threaded spindle. The beam connects two bridge cranes with overall lifting capacity of 500 t (2 × 250 t) and enables their simultaneous conjoint operation during the rehabilitation or major overhaul of hydroelectric generating set equipment at the hydro power plant ‘'Djerdap 2’. Two braces are being installed instead of two hooks when this situation occurs. The threaded spindle is loaded with 500 t (5 MN), while braces are loaded with 250 t (2.5 MN) each. Integrity of structures is a relatively new scientific and engineering discipline which in a broader sense comprises condition analysis, behaviour diagnostics, service life evaluation and rehabilitation of structures, which means that beside the usual situation in which it is necessary to evaluate the integrity of a structure when a flaw is detected by means of non-destructive tests, this discipline also comprises stress condition analysis for the crackless structure, most often through the use of finite element method. This is the way to obtain precise and detailed distribution of displacements, deformations and stresses, which enables determination of weak spots on the structure, even before crack initiation. Non-destructive tests are performed in order to analyse the current condition of braces and the threaded spindle. On the basis of performed analytical calculations it is determined that the integrity is not threatened, although some internal non-homogeneities are detected by ultrasonic testing.

AB - This paper presents a methodological approach for the assessment of service life of vital welded structures of a bucket-wheel excavator Sch Rs 650/5x24 ('Thyssen Krupp', Germany) boom, subjected to cyclic loading with a variable amplitude through the use of experimental tests carried out in order to determine operational strength and growth of a fatigue crack. Realized researches and results presented in this paper offer great possibilities for the analyses of behaviour of vital welded structures of the bucket-wheel boom. By the application of the measurement device with 8 channels for registration and processing of electric signals HBM Spider 8 and measurement tapes HBM 6/350xXY31 deformations were measured at vital welded structures of the boom in the area of the bucket-wheel, made of steels St 37.2 and St 52.3 in accordance with standard DIN 17100, or steels S235J2G3 and S355J2G3 in accordance with standard EN 10025-2. The objective of the test is to determine if there is a possibility of occurrence of plastic deformations or initial cracks due to fatigue at vital welded structures. Tests that refer to the growth of the fatigue crack located at the welded joint have been carried out by bending at three points with asymmetric load R = 0.5 (R = sigma(min) / sigma(max)) at the specimen with a single edge notch. Tests were performed through the use of controlled force, ranging between F-max and F-min at the high frequency pulsator 'Cracktronic', while obtainment of data regarding the crack growth was carried out through the use of measurement gauge ARM A-10.

abstract = "This paper presents a methodological approach for the assessment of service life of vital welded structures of a bucket-wheel excavator Sch Rs 650/5x24 ('Thyssen Krupp', Germany) boom, subjected to cyclic loading with a variable amplitude through the use of experimental tests carried out in order to determine operational strength and growth of a fatigue crack. Tests were performed through the use of controlled force, ranging between F-max and F-min at the high frequency pulsator 'Cracktronic', while obtainment of data regarding the crack growth was carried out through the use of measurement gauge ARM A-10.",

Код истраживања статичке или динамичке интеракције конструкција-тло уобичајено је увођење опруга, било као замена утицаја тла у рамовском моделу или као спој конструкције и тла у просторном моделу. AB - Presented in this paper are the results of the analysis of seismic performances of an overpass founded on piles, in interaction with the soil, located over the E75 Highway Novi Sad - Belgrade, as part of the Kovilj loop. Applied methods include: non-linear static push-over (NSPA) analysis, target displacement analysis, parametric target displacement analysis, vulnerability and reliability analy-sis. The overpass is modelled and taken into consideration for seismic effects along its transverse direction as a 2D planar model. Modelling of elastic-plastic strain is performed using plastic hinges, whereas the development of non-linear strain is considered using the incremental-itera-tive method. It is determined that the failure mechanism of the system occurred because of the plasticization of column ends, and it is maintained as such until the end of the non-linear analysis, along with the changes of performance states in plastic hinges. System vulnerability analysis has shown that up until the point where Sa = 0.2g, nearly all levels of damage are initiated, however, already at values of Sa ≈ 0.3g, significant damages to the overpass are ex-pected along the transverse direction with the probability of P ≈ 1. On the other hand, reliability analysis of the over-pass shows that reliability of R > 0 is achieved for Sa < 0.23g for levels of significant damage and for lower ones.

AB - In this paper a brief review of construction of an overpass and possible methods and certain criteria of choice of seismic strengthening of the middle frame is presented. The calculation of the existing bridge-overpass using non-linear dynamic analysis (NDA) via time history (TH) while taking into account dynamic interactions between the foundations and soil is also given. In a soil-pile-structure system, the structure is modeled, including interaction effects, by using p-y curves for sand, as a link element, according to Reese model. The order of appearance of plastic hinges was analyzed.

AB - The paper describes the modelling and stability analysis of slender piles using finite element method. The concept of a modified stability analysis of 3D model pile–soil–pile cap is formulated; it is formed from solid finite element models for the two types of soil, and a single-pile. Connection in pile–soil contact is modelled using link elements. The terms of the level of normalised critical load Pcr/PE 3D model of pile–soil–pile cap are derived using regression analysis of the power function.
On the basis of performed numerical tests and regres-sion analyses expressions are derived for the buckling length coefficient  as a function of pile length, pile stiff-ness and soil stiffness. Research has shown that the use of sophisticated mathematical models and numerical analysis is justified and necessary in order to gain better insight into the behaviour of slender piles in terms of stability. The paper points to the complex shape of the buckling of slender piles with a number of half waves.
