Characteristics of composite materials based on polylactic acid (PLA)

AB  - Polylactic acid (PLA) is aliphatic thermoplastic polyester. Composites based on PLA are biocompatible,
biodegradable and non-toxic, which are the main advantages of using such composites. Based on the
research results described in this paper, it was concluded that by adding natural fibers to the composite,
certain characteristics can be significantly improved. This paper describes some of composite material
characteristics based on PLA, modification of PLA, advantages and disadvantages of using PLA in
composite materials, composition and methods of obtaining PLA-based composites, as well as the
advantages of using wood plastic composites (WPC) based on PLA.
AB  - Polilaktidna kiselina (PLA) je alifatični termoplastični poliester. Kompoziti na bazi PLA su biokompatibilni, biorazgradivi i netoksični, što čini glavne prednosti upotrebe ovakvih kompozita. Na osnovu rezultata istraživanja opisanih u ovom radu, došlo se do zaključka da se dodavanjem prirodnih vlakana kompozitu mogu znatno poboljšati pojedine karakteristike kompozita. U radu su opisana neke karakteristike kompozitnih materijala na bazi PLA, modifikacija PLA, prednosti i nedostaci upotrebe PLA u kompozitnim materijalima, sastav i metode dobijanja kompozita na bazi PLA, kao i prednosti upotrebe WPC kompozita na bazi PLA.

AB  - The goal of this paper is to analyze the chemical composition of untreated and
treated wooden chips from the native narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia
Vahl. ssp. Pannonica Soó & Simon). In order to determine the effect of pretreatment
with liquid hot water (LHW) on changes in chemical composition, the content
of moisture, cellulose, lignin, minerals (ash), extractives soluble in hot water, extractives
soluble in organic solvents, for treated and for untreated wooden chips
was determined. This was done in accordance with TAPPI and ASTM standard
methods. The properties of wooden chips, treated for 30 min and 60 min at a
temperature of 100 °C, are compared to untreated wooden chips and changes
in the chemical composition that occurred are defined as a result of the applied
treatments. The research was performed under controlled conditions in a laboratory,
and the results of treatments were the subject of comparative analysis. Applied
treatments had a statistically significant effect on decreasing the content of
extractives. The content of cellulose and hemicellulose increased in the treated
wooden chips compared to untreated wooden chips, while the lignin content did
not significantly change.

AB  - Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardized way of quantifying the impact of a product or system on the environment. This study evaluates the environmental impact of 1 tone of clay roof tiles, produced in production plant in Serbia, defined and grouped by use of Product Category Rules (PCR). The purpose of this study is to determine: (1) life cycle stages of the product which have the major impact on the environment expressed as environmental impact categories; (2) the processes of clay roof tile production which have the most important effects on the environment also expressed as environmental impact categories. The LCA analysis has been conducted with the One Click LCA software, developed by Bionova Ltd, Finland. All processes have been modelled based on the inventory data given in the Ecoinvent database (v3.6). According to the results in this study and observed from the aspect of the product life cycle, the production process has the major impact on the environment, and from the aspect of the resources used, the major impact on the environment has the consumption of energy and the use of raw materials.

AB  - WPC su kompozitni materijali koji imaju širok opseg primena, u različitim sektorima na tržištu. WPC su kompoziti sastavljeni od drvne i plastične komponente. Neke od primena, kao što su proizvodi koji se koriste u spoljašnjim prostorima (brodski podovi, ograde, baštenski nameštaj), profili za vrata i prozorski profili, zahtevaju proizvodnju uz korišćenje određene količine reciklirane plastike i sekundarnog drvnog otpada i sirovina. Izbor sirovih materijala, sastav, način proizvodnje i parametri procesa, uticaće na svojstva WPC. Uticaj primene drvne komponente
na mehanička svojstva WPC biće razmatran u ovom radu, a biće prikazani i tipični slučajevi.

AB  - U okviru domaće regulative postoji nekoliko zakona i pravilniika kojima se definišu standardi
kvaliteta životne sredine, donose strateške procene uticaja na životnu sredinu ii primenjuje načelo
održivog razvoja. Za određivanje perforrmansi građevinskiih proizvoda i zgrada s obzirom na životnu sredinu značajno je preuzimanje i implementacija relevantniih zahteva ključniih standarda iz grupe ISO 14000, ali i standarda SRPS EN 15804:2016. Uticaj građevinskih materijala na životnu sredinu ocenjuje se kroz posmatranje životnog ciklusa proizvoda, a krajnji cilj je izdavanje eko-oznaka i eko-deklaracija za proizvod odn. građevinski objekat.

AB  - Postupci za pripremu eko-deklaracija za građevinske proizvode i zgrade zasnovani su na standardizovanim metodama. Deklaracije proizvoda o zaštiti životne sredine (EPD) pripadaju tipu III eko-deklaracija. EPD sadrži verifikovane, precizne i jednoznačne informacije o uticaju proizvoda na životnu sredinu i načinima unapređenja na osnovu naučno dokazanih činjenica. Na osnovu EPD se verifikuju podaci koje je dao proizvođač, odnosno potvrđuje se njihova tačnost i procenjuje da li su u skladu sa važećim propisima i standardima. EPD obezbeđuje informacije o tome kako emisije pojedinih elemenata i jedinjenja utiču na vazduh, zemljište i vodu tokom upotrebe građevinskog objekta. Cilj je ocenjivanje održivosti građevinskih objekata s obzirom na životnu sredinu.
AB  - Procedures for preparing of the eco-declarations for construction products and buildings are based on the standardized methods. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) belong to the type III eco-declarations. The EPD contains verified, precise and unambiguous information about the environmental impact of products and the potential for improvement based on the scientifically proven facts. On the basis of the EPD, the data given by the manufacturer are verified, i.e. their accuracy is confirmed and it is assessed that they are in accordance with the applicable regulations and standards. EPD provides information on how emissions of individual elements and compounds affect air, soil and water during use of a building facility. The aim is to evaluate the sustainability of buildings in relation to the environment.
