AB - In the paper, the analysis of the bearing capacity of the pile and the redistribution of the
load on the pile toe and shaft was carried out. The tests were carried out by a static load test (SLT)
incrementally increasing the compressive force on the test pile, and the tension force on the anchor
piles. The test system consisted of one test pile and two anchor piles with a reaction beam. Two
tests were conducted according to the same test program, where the test piles were of the same
length, while the length of the anchor piles in the second test was increased. In the first test, the
anchor pile failed, while in the second test, the test pile failed. Based on the achieved limit values of
settlement of the test and anchor pile, the bearing capacity of the test pile at the toe and shaft was
determined. Subsequently, a CPT test was carried out and the bearing capacity was calculated
according to the LPC-CPT method.

AB - During earthquakes that exceed the designed level of the structure, the structure gets damaged. Here, the structure-foundation-soil is considered as a system, and the effect of the soil on the piles can be replaced by nonlinear p-y curves. Work on this topic began as early as 1957, based on the analogy between the triaxial test and the form of soil failure, and during the 1970’s, a number of researchers made significant progress in the development of appropriate models for different types of soil. Eurocode 8 pays special attention to the selection of earthquakes as a set of accelerograms. For areas within a radius of several hundred kilometers from central Romania and its southern part, the Vrancea hypocenter has a significant influence. In North Serbia and its surroundings, other sources of earthquakes are also possible, but when choosing accelerogram, the response spectra of several Vrancea records should also be used. The SSI model itself, where the soil is replaced by p-y curves, even though it might look complicated, it is significantly simpler and leads to faster results than integral 3D models. By using adequate soil parameters, fairly reliable data can be obtained on the degree and distribution of damage to the SSI system, like plastic hinges. In soil models used for clean sand, the curves used seem significantly more reliable than clayey ones, but here too caution is needed because the degree of compaction (relative density) has a significant effect, and the way of determining it is still not reliable.

AB - The paper shows the comparative analysis of behavior and bearing capacity of piles examined using the Dynamic Load Test (DLT) according to Static Load Test (SLT) results. The pile testing methodology is based on the existing ASTM standards and experiences of the authors of the paper. The pile tests were carried out using counterweights, reactive system, dynamic testing equipment, hardware and software for SLT and DLT. The data obtained by testing were statis-tically processed, and also a regression analysis of the linear function was conducted, resulting in the creation of the model for the change of mobilized static bearing capacity from DLT according to SLT. In addition, a procedure for correcting the solution of mobilized static bearing capacity from DLT according to SLT, is made by observing provisions of standard EN 1997-1:2004, so the average deviation of solutions from DLT according to SLT is reduced. Apart from that, through iterations, the value of correlation factor ξ5 is determined, taking into consideration solutions presented by SLT and DLT of piles of the real structures.

AB - The application of dispersive soil can result in various types of damage, and even the collapse of embanked build-ings if it is not identified. Dispersive soils cannot be uniquely identified by visual identification in the field, or by usual standard methods used for soil identification in the geo-mechanical laboratory. The paper presents the results of laboratory geomechanical tests aimed at identifying and classifying erodible dispersive fine-grained soil. The tests were carried out using the crumb test, the double hydrometer test (SCS), and the pinhole test on samples: sandy clay embankment dams of ‘Rovni’, loess from different locations (Zemun, Novi Beograd, Titel, Kelebija, Srbobran, Slanka-men, Ruma, Mali Iđoš) and kaolinite sandy clay deposits Grabež - Aranđelovac. The possibility of improving disper-sive soil by adding fly ash was also analyzed. Pinhole tests on dispersive soil samples with the addition of 10, 30 and 50 % ash showed that there was a decrease in dispersivity of natural soil for one to two dispersion classes.

AB - The paper presents the static load tests (SLT) and dynamic load tests (DLT) of the piles and numerical analyses of piles in interaction with the soil of wind turbines. Pile tests were conducted using the equipment with counterweights for SLT and an autonomous system for the control of DLT of the piles. Numerical DLT analyses were performed by the signal matching method. Tests proved that the design resistance of piles of SLT and mobilized static resistance of DLT are higher than the design forces obtained from the design of the wind turbine foundations. Also, the need to develop a plan for testing the bearing capacity of piles, concerning large and significant buildings was emphasized.

AB - The paper indicates the problems of maintaining buildings constructed in the IMS system, founded on piles with a basement floor. Also presented are the problems with the installations of buildings with a roof terrace, such as downpipe verticals that are extending through the building, or installations of water supply and sewerage that run through the technical floor at ground level. An approximate analysis of the hydrodynamic impact is presented. The analogy of the effects of caverns in sandy soil with lateral soil expansion during liquefaction was also used. Given the change in climatic conditions, it is necessary in some cases to analyze the influence of atmospheric conditions in the soil-structure interaction. The advantage of buildings built in the frame IMS system (Žeželj) in seismically active areas was also indicated. These buildings are also more resistant to problems that may arise later in construction of deep foundations.

AB - The paper presents the comparative analysis of several piles for different pier locations of a bridge by employing in-situ deep foundations tests and in-situ soil tests. The focus of the paper is on the
presentation of the reliability of solutions obtained using the Dynamic Load Test (DLT) for in-situ
tests of the bearing capacity of deep foundations – piles. The DLT test was conducted in two stages:
in-situ DLT of piles and pile bearing capacity analysis using the wave theory and the method of
characteristics. The signals of upward traveling force waves, obtained by in-situ DLT of piles were
signal matched with the signals of the numerical nonlinear model of the dynamic pile-soil interaction.
The results of DLT of pile bearing capacity are presented as componential values (regarding the pile
base and the pile shaft) and as a cumulative value (total bearing capacity), so that the comparison of
DLT and pressuremeter test (PMT) was conducted both according to componential and cumulative
bearing capacities. Since it is not possible to strictly conduct DLT and PMT for the same settlement
level, it is not possible to directly compare the bearing capacity, however the comparison was
performed taking into account the bearing capacities from PMTs according to Eurocode 7. DLTs
provided bearing capacities which correlate well with the PMTs results. Also, DLTs determined the
corresponding elastoplastic settlement for the designed resistance of piles, which is very useful to the designers in the analysis of serviceability (settlement) of both the pier locations and of the entire bridge.

AB - Bipedal models for walkers, originally developed in the research field of biomechanics,
have been identified as potential candidates for modelling pedestrians in structural engineering
applications. These models provide insight into both the kinetics and kinematics of walking locomotion and are considered to have a significant potential to improve the vibration serviceability
assessment of civil engineering structures. Despite this notion, the ability of the bipedal models to
represent the key features of the walking gait and natural variability within the pedestrian population are still under-researched. This paper critically evaluates the performance of two bipedal models with rigid legs to realistically both reproduce key features of an individual pedestrian’s walking gait and represent a wide range of individuals. The evaluation is performed for walking on a rigid, rather than vibrating, structure due to the availability of experimental data and expectation that successful modelling on rigid surfaces is a necessary condition for progressing towards modelling on the vibrating structures. Ready-to-use equations are provided and the ability of the models to represent the kinematics and kinetics of individual pedestrians as well as the inter-subject variability typical of the human population is critically evaluated. It was found that the two models could generate realistic combinations of the gait parameters and their correlations, but are less successful in reproducing genuine kinetic and kinematics profiles.

The pile tests were conducted using own equipment with licensed hardware and software for the Dynamic Load Test (DLT). The tests have shown the correct and problematic situations that arise when analyzing the bearing capacity of piles. Aspects of application of different equipment and testing methodologies in different situations are indicated. Also, the need to develop a plan for testing the load capacity of piles when it comes to large and significant structures was pointed out.

Modeling of Damping Effects in Soil – Structure Interaction in the Pushover Analysis

AB - The paper shows aspects of damping modelling in nonlinear static pushover analysis (NSPA) of structures through systematization of damping types and formed flow diagram, depending on the type of applied target displacement analysis. By applying the developed flow diagram, in the process of creating and analysing numerical models of structures, it is possible to very efficiently consider which type of damping should be selected and how to introduce damping in nonlinear static pushover analysis. Generally speaking, in nonlinear static pushover analysis (NSPA) damping is introduced indirectly by reducing the response spectrum. The problem of introducing damping is considered taking into account the soil-structure interaction, modelling the kinematic effects and the damping effects of the foundation, i.e., the ground. Parametric analysis was performed by varying the parameters: the effect of foundation depth, i.e., the impact of the existence of underground floors and the impact of damping. Based on the developed pushover curves, the levels of target displacements for each individual condition were determined, and then these discrete values were classified according to soil categories. By connecting such discrete values of the target displacement, a cumulative curve was constructed, i.e., an envelope of possible states of drifts and forces. By applying the proposed procedure, it is possible to consider the possible level of nonlinear deformations of the system, taking into account the effect of interaction with the soil and damping. The research established that the introduction of the soil-structure interaction can significantly affect the values of global drift, and thus partially the correction of the relevant total lateral seismic force. The sensitivity of the change in the relevant total lateral seismic force is much lower than the displacement, because in the nonlinear domain the system has much less stiffness, even in certain situations the stiffness is zero, so a small increase in load can produce much greater deformation. Also, the research found that for different types of soil and different damping values, the fragments of the pushover curves, obtained by interpolating the target displacements for the same soil types, overlap at certain intervals

AB - The paper analyses transmission and redistribution of the load from the pile on the soil, with a special focus on these effects regarding the shaft and base of the pile. The test was conducted using the dynamic load test (DLT) by incrementally increasing the kinetic energy of the drop weight impact in several drops. The results of in‒situ DLTs are presented and after the performed signal matching for every impact of the drop weight. The testing and appropriate numerical analyses determined the mechanism of redistribution of the shaft-base load of the pile up to the ultimate bearing capacity, whereby there occurs a reduction in the transmission of the load via the shaft and an increase in the transmission of the load via the base.

AB - This paper deals with the aspects of vibration analysis of 3D numerical water tower models with the explicitly generated 3D finite element (FE) solid fluid model that simulates the fluid-structure interaction (FSI). The development and implementation of the 3D FE solid fluid model in modelling and analysing the system response is extremely important, both in terms of determining the impulsive and convective hydrodynamic pressure, and in terms of overall sizing of the water tower. Vibration of the water tower is calculated based on the analysis of its eigenvibrations, analysis of eigenvibrations occurring when charging and discharging the water tower reservoir (SFA - Staged Fluid Analysis), Steady-State Analysis (SSA) in the frequency domain and the analysis of the system response in the time domain (THA - Time History Analysis), followed by the transformation of the frequency domain response using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). The analysis of eigenvalues using the Ritz vectors (Ritz analysis) and the Power Spectral Density Analysis (PSDA) are carried out as the means of additional control and with the purpose of identifying vibration periods. The system's stiffness matrix and mass matrix are corrected using the 3D FE solid fluid model for analysing the water tower vibrations. Effects of the system's increasing vibration period are determined for the partially charged reinforced concrete (RC) water tower reservoir, given the strong action of the fluid mass that is excited for convective hydrodynamic action (sloshing) due to the water tower dimensions and the amount of fluid contained in the reservoir in this case.

AB - This paper formulates a mathematical model using the extrapolation of load-settlement curves with a rational function for analyzing the capacity of piles obtained from the static load test (SLT). In preliminary analyses, the extrapolation was based on the application of a number of mathematical functions that were gradually eliminated by iterative selection and filtering. The solution was obtained by extrapolation with a rational function. Using a rational function in the extrapolation of the load-settlement curve, a clearly identifiable part is obtained in which the asymptote is vertical, indicating the reached limit state of capacity in the soil and/or in the pile. The probabilistic analysis showed that no unique value for pile capacity was obtained, and that the spectrum of capacity values depends on the probability of occurrence of the corresponding event.

AB - The paper presents a seismic analysis of the structure-pile-soil system, of a 2D RC frame. The analysis of individual system elements and some potential damage on two Vrancea accelerograms, VR77NS and VRfoc86NS are presented. The impact of the response spectra is provided for VR77NS, because the structure enters the resonant area and the damage increase considerably. Local drift diagrams during the earthquake, and the model damage featured as plastic hinges condition at the end of accelerograms are provided. It is indicated that it is necessary to introduce a dynamic interaction of the structural system, which includes not only the piles, but soil as well, because it became possible at the present level of scientific and technological progress of the human kind.

AB - This paper presents the manner of modeling the aftershock (in an earthquake), the phenomenon whose significance has been noted in the second half of the 20th century. Itlists the constructional systems in which the consideration of the aftershock is important. It shows in more detail the model of the skeletal RC construction, i.e. the 2D RC facade frame constructed on the 60cm-diameter drilled RC piles. The dynamic interaction soil-pile, i.e. the non-linear behaviour of the soil is modelled with the horizontal p-y curves for sand, applying multiplastic link elements. For the accelerogram El Centro during time history (TH) the global and (local) drift, the condition of plastic hinges were considered.

AB - The paper presents typical examples of pile integrity testing and the results analysis, whereby the testing methodology relies on existing ASTM standards, as well as on the testing methodology presented in the scientific paper Pile Integrity and Load Testing: Methodology and Classification, published in this journal. The pile tests were conducted using licensed equipment for Sonic Integrity Test (SIT) and Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL). The tests have shown the correct and problematic situations that arise when analyzing pile integrity. Some aspects of the wave theory implementation, but also of signal processing and numerical analysis have been indicated. Also, the need to develop a plan for testing the integrity of piles in structures with a large number of piles has been emphasized.

AB - The paper presents the methodology and classification of pile integrity and load testing, in compliance with current foreign standards, as well as our own defined segments of standard improvement and our own definitions of certain key elements. The classification has been conducted according to the test types which clearly define the pile testing process, analysis methods, and test results processing. Beside the basic division of pile testing to integrity tests and load tests, there is also an additionally defined group of shaft control tests in the case of bored piles, since for the proper shaft formation, when it comes to bored piles, certain qualitative-quantitative criteria must be fulfilled beforehand. Presented in this way, the methodology and classification of pile integrity and load tests serves, primarily, an educational purpose for civil and geotechnics engineers who deal with this issue, to additionally introduce innovations in this field of testing and clarify all the elements of the testing since contradictory opinions and disagreements regarding the testing details are quite common in practice.

AB - The paper presents a seismic analysis of a 2D reinforced concrete (RC) frame founded on piles. The soil-pile interaction is represented by the so-called p-y curves. At the base, the piles may be both fixed or elastically supported. P-y curves are determined according to Rees, Cox and Matlock model for sand. Using SAP 2000, p-y curves are applied on both sides of the pile, as the link elements. Link elements are assumed as a multi-linear plastic type, i.e. as hysteresis envelopes according to the Takeda model. The linear part of the link element corresponds to initial stiffness of the p-y curve. Curves are exposed to compression only and to almost negligible tension. In the analysis of seismic action, the curve coefficients for a repeated, i.e. cyclic load were assumed. In such a way, numerical model asymptotically simulates the real actions and seismic response of structures in dynamic interaction of the pile-structure-soil system. This model offers many options for further development and study of seismic performance.

AB - The paper is presenting a mathematical formulation of an originally developed ground motion record surface (GMRS) and response spectra surface (RSS) for the presentation of 2D seismic ground motion records (GMR) and the corresponding response spectra (RS), respectively. These surfaces are constructed by transformation from 2D polar coordinate system to a 3D cylindrical coordinate system and then to the 3D orthogonal coordinate system. The principle of application of three orthogonal coordinates for each discrete value is used in order to achieve easy manipulation and interpolation of spatial surface. Scaling of accelerograms was carried out using two procedures: the Least Square Method (LSM) and Spectral Matching (SM).
