Effect of LCF on behavior and microstructure of microalloyed HSLA steel and its simulated CGHAZ

AB  - Numerous structural components made of high strength low-alloyed steels are often exposed to low-cycle fatigue loading during their exploitation life. In order to study the fatigue behavior of one grade of structural steels produced in Yugoslavia during the eighties of the last century, a push-pull constant amplitude strain-controlled fatigue tests were conducted at room temperatures. This paper analyses behavior of two different materials, parent steel (PM) and its coarse-grained (CG) simulated heat-affected zone (SHAZ) exposed to the action of low-cycle fatigue (LCF) loading performed in the range from 1 to 10(4) cycles. LCF tests were conducted at strain ratio R = -1 at strain amplitude range from 0.3% to 0.8%. The materials' Coffin-Manson parameters appearing in the strain-life and cyclic stress-strain curves were calculated. Fracture surface analysis of both materials was done. The results showed that plasticity under dynamic load conditions is satisfactory for both materials which give them good resistance to crack initiation and propagation.

Microstructural analysis as the indicator for suitability of weld repairing of the heat resistant Cr - Ni steel

AB  - Metallurgical evaluation was performed on a fractured column tube of the reformer furnace in an ammonia plant. The tubes were manufactured from centrifugally cast heat resistant steel HK 40. Optical and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used for microstructural and fracture analysis. For composition determination of the microconstituents energy dispersive X ray spectroscopy (EDS) was used. To evaluate mechanical properties, hardness and microhardness measurements were performed. Investigations based on the microstructural features with the idea to indicate suitability of weld repair of the column were performed in this study. It was observed that the crack initiation, caused by oxidation/corrosion and thermal stresses induced by temperature gradient, appeared in the inner side of the tube wall and propagation occurred along grain boundaries. The results clearly showed the presence of an irregular microstructure which contributed to crack propagation through the tube wall. An occurrence of precipitated needle-shaped carbides/carbonitrides and brittle a phase was also identified in the microstructure. Results of the microstructural and fracture analysis clearly indicate that reformer furnace columns made of heat resistant steel HK 40 were unsuitable for weld repair.

Žilavost i duktilnost zavarenih spojeva čelika visoke čvrstoće

AB  - Tri metode ispitivanja različitim brzinama opterećenja epruveta sa zarezom (udarno klatno, padajući teg, izbočavanje eksplozijom) su primenjene za ocenu žilavosti i duktilnosti ručno elektrolučno zavarivanih spojeva. Osnovne osobine zavarenih spojeva i prelazna temperatura su takođe određene kao deo ispitivanja zavarljivosti. Prikazani su rezultati primene date tri metode na čelike NIONIKRAL 70 i SUMITEN 80P, iste klase čvrstoće. Pokazalo se da primenjene metode ispitivanja ne isključuju jedna drugu, jer daju komplementarne rezultate za ponašanje pri lomu zavarenih spojeva. .
AB  - Three testing methods of different loading rates had been applied using notched specimens (impact pendulum, drop weight, explosion bulging) for toughness and ductility assessment of metal manual arc welded joints. Basic properties of welded joints and transition temperatures were assessed too, as a part of weld ability testing. Results are presented of the three given methods applied to steels NIONIKRAL 70 and SUMITEN 80P, of the same strength class. It is found that the applied test methods do not exclude each other, producing complementary results for fracture behavior of welded joints. .

AB  - Predložen je novi pristup projektovanju krive otpornosti prema prslinama i ispitana mogućnost njegove primene. Pristup se zasniva na opisu JR krive polinomom sa dva koeficijenta. Za određivanje koeficijenta su potrebna dva para vrednosti J integrala i širenja prsline Δa. Jedan od njih je određen eksperimentalno. Usvojeno je da drugi par pripada liniji zatupljivanja, ali su takođe potrebni i dodatni kriterijumi. Razmotrena je mogućnost kako da se uspostave ovakvi kriterijumi za drugi par vrednosti J integrala i širenja prsline Δa. .
AB  - New approach for crack resistance curve design is proposed and the possibility of its application investigated. The approach is based on JR description by polynomial function with two coefficients. For determining coefficients two pairs of values of J integral and crack extension Δa are necessary. One of them is determined experimentally. It is accepted that the second pair of values belongs to the blunting line, but additional criteria are also required. The possibility to establish these criteria for the second pair of values of J integral and crack extension Δa is considered. .
