Prediction of crack initiation in spur gear contact zone
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to give a new viewpoint in contact fatigue prediction in the case of high-cycle fatigue. The presented research is based on up-to-date methods and multidisciplinary approach, and enables direct calculation of fatigue crack initiation in contact zones. Two methods are built in the new methodology: the Theory of Critical Distances (TCD) and the Finite Element Method (FEM. One particular contact problem contact on spur gear tooth flanks is analyzed for confirmation of the methodology.
